Dear reader,

Maybe there’s an art to apologizing. Maybe, like any art, it takes practice. This piece came through a few weeks ago, imagining my way into someone else’s shoes, and I share it here in the spirit of practice. I know it was helpful for me to write. I hope it finds a useful life in the reading.

Sincerely,

Andrew

I’m so sorry.

That’s the first thing

and the main thing

and I’ll come back to it.

But the second thing I want to say

right away is

thank you.

Thank you for your willingness to let me know I hurt you.

I don’t take it for granted that you would trust me with that information

and it means a lot to me that you took the risk to share it.
